What is Tactical Krav Maga?
Tactical Krav Maga is the designed evolution of the Israeli Krav Maga self defense system when used in conjunction with modern weapons training and specifically developed to address the scenarios and environments seen in today’s Law Enforcement actions and other documented armed violent encounters. The base system of Krav Maga and its sound principles, while forming the absolute foundation of training, required expansion to address threats beyond the normal. But most importantly, Tactical Krav Maga recognizes, and seeks to fill, holes in today’s modern training functionality. Where techniques and principles may be perfectly sound, training methodology was found to create ‘crutches’, ‘scars’ and ‘habits’ that even the most realistic training scenarios weren’t addressing.
Tactical Krav Maga brings the sound principles of the last decade to solve new threats, adds tactical and weapons training to self defense, and creates skill sets by using special drills and tools to force a quickened perceptual response to a threat and not just rely on the largest response available, which the practitioner may not have adequate time or distance to deploy. The outcome of the training allows the practitioner to be proactive in a response or reactive when time and space dictate it, and still offers options after the initial reaction to transition back to proactive tactics.
Who is Tactical Krav Maga?
Born out of necessity, Imi created Krav Maga. Likewise, Tactical Krav Maga was born when James Hiromasa and the Senior Law Enforcement Instructors at Colorado Krav Maga recognized large flaws in the way training was being conducted on the extreme threat level, and most often in the Law Enforcement Training Environment. James has been training law Enforcement Instructors for over a decade in Krav Maga, and along with the Colorado Krav Maga DeTac Instructors (all active LEO’s), they created Tactical Krav Maga to solve those flaws.
TKM’s Master Instructors include the following accolades and many more;
- Certified Krav Maga Instructors since 1997
- Black belts, 2nd Degree Black, and 3rd Degree Black belts in Krav Maga and other systems
- Training the Trainers status since 2001
- Certified Krav Maga Instructors by Wingate Institute, the Official Krav Maga body for the Country of Israel
- Certified Law Enforcement Master Instructors in Krav Maga for LEO’s since 2003
- POST certified and NRA certified Firearms Instructors
James and Shannon are Instructor Trainers for multiple national Krav Maga Organizations. By choosing to remain free agents, they could best spread quality Krav Maga by not limiting themselves to single, and often political, organizations and train instructors everywhere regardless of organizational affiliations. For those who are in the know, live in this world, and train those whose lives depend on immediate action response, James and team are at the top of the list to call for Krav Maga Training from Law Enforcement, Security, and Tactical Training agencies. With over 30 years of martial arts, security, Law Enforcement and tactical experience to bring to the table, it’s obvious why they are in such high demand for seminars and instructor training across the US.
Tactical Krav Maga very specifically does NOT include the standard self-defense curriculum presented by any number of legitimate Krav Maga organizations in the world today. As trainers for many of these organizations, the Tactical Krav Maga team can help you find certification for that curriculum if you desire. Our focus in on the armed side of self-defense and we prefer to keep our sights focused on just that.
Knowing that, we attempt to be completely neutral in the ever changing and often political environment of Organizations, Affiliations, & Associations. We advocate more training, not exclusive training. Gain an understanding of the reality of self-defense, body mechanics, and the physical, mental, and psychological effects of violence and then evaluate as much training as you can, keeping only what your evaluations deem effective. The only thing we ask is that when teaching TKM curriculum, you teach TKM curriculum. If you choose to teach other techniques we are all for it, just don’t call it Tactical Krav Maga!
